The Government of
India established the Competition Commission of India (CCI) to achieve the objectives
of the Competition Act, 2002. CCI was established by the Parliament under the
provisions of the Competition Act with effect from October 13, 2003.
CCI (Competition
Commission of India) consist of a Chairperson and Members appointed by the Central
Government. It is the duty of the CCI to eliminate practices having adverse
effect on competition, promote and sustain competition, protect the interest of
the consumers and ensure freedom of trade carried on by other participants, in
the Indian market.
Competition Commission
of India is required to give opinion on competition issues on a reference
received from a statutory authority stabled under any law and to undertake
competition advocacy create public awareness and impart training on competition
issues.
